Backbone

                              The backbone in my life

                                  With beautiful brown smiling eyes

With a heart as big as the world

With a face that lights up the room

Energized and confident she wakes up every morning, setting up  the breakfast table and getting us ready for the morning prayer.

Tearing up as she sends of her babies to school.

She is the mother of all, so gentle in words, so strong as a rock.

With her brown soft scarf and black jilbab

She is all i need in this world to keep me going.

SALAMA, MY EVERYTHING

The light in my life, so bright and shiny

The wings I need to keep me lifted My every breath when feeling out of

My legs when I am feeling down

My true superman when feeling so weak and scared

My only medicine that's not bought from pharmacies when feeling miserable

My day and night that keeps me smiling

My every heart beat that I need to live

My vegetable, water fruit and chicken I need daily to keep me going

My brain that keeps me focused and organized

My knowledge that gives power in my life

My one and only friend that I can count on

My eyes that tell me everything is going to be ok

My shoulders, always there to lean

Salama the seeds that started my garden

My umbrella that protects me from the cold rain

My sunshine that helps me wake up every morning

My teddy bear that keeps me warm and comfy

Salama the one person I believe that can cure world hunger with his kindness, hope and love

CHICAGO

The city of hats gloves and jackets.

The city were newborn are thrown in garbage cans.

Where students are being raped in there own schools.

Where children beg for anything to eat

Where a father gets murdered for 20$

Where boys get shot for wearing the wrong colors

Where kids commit graphite in school bathrooms

Chicago where there is a freakin protest because were a having a freakin Macys

Where people could careless if you need help on a stormy night

Where young girls commit suicide just to be like “that girl” on T.V.

Where car accidents kill us by drunk drivers

Where your childhood is taken away from you

Where money manipulates you to commit the unthinkable

Chicago where you want the best education yet you cant find one

Where your dreams become nightmares

Where the storm takes your home away

Where the cold keeps you starving

Chicago where the heat kills our poor bodies

Where drugs are found in our own friend’s lockers

Where you go the extra mile for a friend you thought you once knew

Where you feel like your teachers are against your own work

Where you don’t feel appreciated for working hours on the job

Where you’re judged for simply being who you are

Where you fall down and there is no one there to pick you up

Chicago where  we try to make it work.
